HISTORY OF BLACKWOOD PLAYERS
In 1951, Blackwood Players were founded by Tina Fairbrother, who had been involved with drama in the Blackwood region.
The new group mounted a drawing-point comedy, George and Maragret, in the Blackwood, Belair and Coromandel Boys' Club. It went well and since then the group has aimed to produce full-length and one-act plays of high-quality productions several times per year.
The Blackwood Players' home has moved over the decades. For many years, the Blackwood Memorial Hall was the home base. Then, in the mid 80s, Blackwood Players were invited to become the resident group at the Tower Arts Centre at (Daws Road High School).
In 2005, when renovations began at the Tower Arts Centre, the Players moved to the Goodwood Institute. In 2006 Blackwood Players returned to the Blackwood Memorial Hall, where they continue doing their rehearsals and performances.
At present the players produce three productions per year.
